Who's covered?
Liability Insurance covers “the other person” in an accident. Liability Insurance Does not cover you, or anyone in your car.
What's covered?
Liability Insurance covers damages that you inflict on another person or another person’s vehicle in an accident. Your Liability Insurance does not cover you or your vehicle. However, since every driver in The United States is required to have Liability Insurance, if someone hits you in an accident, their Liability Insurance will cover damages to your person and your vehicle.
For Example
Emma is driving down Main Street, and hits Hillary’s car. Hillary’s car is dented, and Hillary suffered from whiplash. Since Emma and her caused the accident, Emma’s Liability Insurance will pay to repair Hillary’s car. Emma’s Liability Insurance will also pay for Hillary’s medical bills for medical attention she seeks for her whiplash.
Q: What if my car causes an accident while I am not in it?
A: If someone else is driving your car and they happen to cause an accident, your Liability Insurance policy may or may cover the accident. If the person driving your car is listed on your insurance policy (as every licensed driver who lives in your home should be) then your Liability Policy will cover the accident. Beyond that, it depends on your particular policy. Look over the details of your policy for more information.
